It is a laboratory replication of a rare mineral originally found in a crater formed when a meteorite crashed into earth thousands of years ago. In 1893, Dr. Henri Moissan, a French chemist and later Nobel Prize winner, identified minute quantities of natural silicon carbide in the Diablo Canyon meteorite found in a remote area of Arizona.
